Something hazeybabout this…
This is definitely a religious war
This guy has double standard for terrorists
What is your definition of terrorism?
🥰🥰🥰
Mass incarceration of poor people with these non profits unregulated, unmonitored, they abused me and my husband and stole all our stuff
This is America yes im from England ive noticed America is like that
Thank you 🙏🏾 I'm coming to realise this is probably the important part of my healing, is coming to terms with this. That it's continuous work, and I need to have realistic expectations for my healing JOURNEY, and what that really means. For a long time I've been trying to "fix" (heal) myself, (and everything else in the world).. That is not realistic. Which feels almost hopeless because I'm an idealist and perfectionist. But also soon after I get to realise I can take the pressure off myself, I don't have to be a perfectly fixed human. I can be working to get better and accept improvement, incrementally, as good enough! I don't have to hold this weight of having to try to attain the impossible. Just gotta keep reminding myself.
Thank you so much for sharing this, I'm in tears. This reminded me to have more compassion for myself and whatever I'm dealing with 🙏🏾
Thank y’all! 😄😃 My mom and I read your Op-Ed in the Houston Chronicle, it was great I learned a lot!
The amount I learned in those 8 minutes… thank you Linda for opening my mind to a decolonized approach to secure attachment 🙌🏽 I’m going to bring this to the clinicians I work with!
I found this video after searching for "Gabor Mate Palestine" with the filter of videos posted in the past week. I am currently pursing a career (life mission) of being a coach/healer (not going to pursue school/licensing). I have learned so much from you guys. So grateful/lucky I found this video and can learn from your experience/wisdom
I really enjoyed the conversations between Dr. Garrett and Professor Stettler. Dr. Garrett gives a good example of dissenting and neoliberalism. This is a really good podcast. I highly recommend you listening to it.
What a great episode. It has me evaluating why I want to enter the field of social work. I think it's important to understand the history of these systems in order to fully grasp why they aren't beneficial to the majority of people. I'm leaving this episode feeling more educated on the structure and origins of the family policing system and the social work profession.
I really enjoyed learning more about what social workers can do within the work place to foster these views. I think the knowledge and information you have can be helpful for many people in the social work community. This was a very interesting podcast with some insightful views into abolitionism.
Do you know the teachings of Herbert marcuse her mentor? The ideas from which her Marxists and racist views originitate from? The people are absolutely sick! The papers and content are available to read!
Thanks for your comment. We are familiar with Herbert Marcuse, but by no means experts. There are things I disagree with like "liberating tolerance." Marcuse argued that true tolerance required the suppression of intolerant viewpoints to protect marginalized groups and promote social progress. There is a lot to unpack, but we do not know of anything that would cause for him to be labeled as "racist" or "sick". Happy to read anything you can point us toward that demonstrates what you are saying. peace.
I really enjoyed this show. Thank you, Michon, for allowing us into this wonderful world of social work.Great job I truly loved the story about your daughter.
This podcast was extremely eye-opening when it comes to language and culture! I enjoyed hearing the different perspective's and the different questions that came from the guests this week. -Jaelynn A.
I think this podcast is a really healthy outlet for people that either want to experience a positive atmosphere or to people that want to take these discussions and use it as personal motivation for great change. I think people can find strength in these episodes. The podcast uses tons of guests who are all relevant to the topic at hand that are able to articulate their answers and clearly convey their thoughts, and thankfully Christian Stettler can too. -Sean M.
I had the honor of listening live and asking questions along the way. The journey that Mishon and Christian take us on is one of deep empathy and healing. Finding and keeping our inner child alive is what allows our dreams to come true! And we can all be Princesses!
A must hear conversation for anyone who has healing to do, which is all of you! Michon and Professor Stettler dive deep into what it means to love ourselves through even the toughest of times, and come out the other side ready to shine that light for everyone else who is still finding their way.
Wow just wow! This was so powerful that I just had to sit in silence and think about the way I was doing everything. I did not know that I was listening to my mind more than my heart.
Great video! I’m learning about Ilarion in my Anthropology class too this same week, he is great learning a lot , very interesting conversation! Something he said that sparked my interest in the was in the beginning he said his people came from Egypt, I would like to study that, there is a verse in 2 Esdras where it says Gods people went through the water to a new land I’ve always seen so many similarities between Hebrew people and indigenous people and how they honor the creator and all living things, like is what the Bible says the Creator did in the beginning was gave stewardship over all the land and animals and that everything has a spirit. I think what you guys talked about heart wisdom is spirit and talking circles are honoring peoples spirit because they are all equal especially when trying to talk to people, everyone has a voice and that we need to listen too. I also liked when you guys were talking about Grandma Rita and her advice about not being all spiritual or all physical but that we need to be balanced in order to be useful and make an impact, fly so to say
I am only halfway through this podcast and I am speechless in how much his words put definitions to feelings that I have had inside. It is so frustrating to know that something so simple as shifting from our minds to our hearts could benefit people in such healthy ways, but it seems like an unachievable dream. I am going to share this until people are sick of me lol
"I listened to an amazing podcast despite the technical problems. The guest, Ilarion Merculieff, is an Unangan Elder who strongly advocates for Indigenous rights and environmental protection. The episode offered valuable insights, especially regarding heart wisdom, talking circles, and the interconnectedness of humans and nature. I really enjoyed it and commend you for a great job!"
First off, I grew up on Sailor Boy crackers! I grew up in Barrow for a few years when I was young. I do not remember a lot, but I do remember some things, and Sailor Boy was one. Same with seeing all the arctic animals on the tundra and water with my family. At a young age, I thought that was normal, then when I moved to Fairbanks I always wondered where the polar bears were. This podcast was so interesting to hear from the perspective of one indigenous to Alaska. While I feel we have the great opportunity to experience many indigenous cultural practices of Alaskan natives (without being Alaskan natives), we also have not had the unique and intimate experiences of being a part of councils or whale hunts. Many of us do not go hunting for meet or pick berries; those are such beautiful and unique experiences I wish everyone had. Those experiences teach you so much, not only about this beautiful culture but also about being grateful for your land and our home state of Alaska.
From the start the guest set the science for how he views the environment by stating "we do not own the land" . I personally think this is one of the main differences between Indigenous people and those who came after. Listening to this makes you really reflect on how we view the environment and challenges the rooted beliefs and actions we have been instilled by the modern western culture of today.
Never thought about asking cab drivers where they're from. I literally do that every time I ride in a cab. Definitely something for me to reflect on. For the brother word I feel like it's used by white people when they are trying to connect with black folks in a positive way. On the other hand when white men call me buddy or bud it makes me feel like they are trying to minimum me as a man so I can understand how some people would feel that way about brother.
CHEEEEEEEEEE PONO!
This was an enjoyable podcast episode to watch. It felt very natural and being able to hear every individual's experiences and passions that come on the podcast through various episodes drives me to be more passionate and outspoken about my own beliefs that I am passionate about. So often the talk of beliefs are based off whether someone has the "right" or "wrong" belief, and being able to se individuals share in a safe environment without judgement is a beautiful thing. I look forward to watching this podcast more in the future even outside the academic setting. And before I forget, I think the statement that sat with me the most this episode was the statement that trauma and mental illness isn't something that's wrong with you, its something that happened to you. Hearing about that perspective really made me take a step back, breathe, and ponder upon it. It is a statement I will most definitely be taking to heart.

I can relate to what David said about his barber being his social worker. Growing up we had a barber by the name of Mr. gillespie! He was an active listener and always had words of wisdom. He didn’t hesitate to tell you when we were wrong but his approach was a gentle approach which allowed me to feel comfortable sharing things I wouldn’t have otherwise shared with an adult. Here in Fairbanks there’s a gentleman by the name of Mr. Joe. He provided this same kind of therapy when I redeployed from Afghanistan. His listening skills were superb and he always remembered what we talked about two weeks prior which showed me he cared. I also agree with Mr. Shakur in that there’s always been negativity attached to social workers because of organizations like child protective services who appeared to have no understanding of urban communities. I mean in Alaska we have a focus on indigenous people but what about the social workers who graduate in Obama at the university of Nebraska then move to Alaska and attempt to apply what they’ve learned In Nebraska to indigenous peoples? Every community is different and the book answer doesn’t always apply to every situation. People want to be heard and they want to know what they want matters.
A very interesting topic and an even more interesting journey. I'm definitely not against mushrooms but having done them in my early twenties, BE CAREFUL! I agree that people need to do their own research and definitely take into account anything that they are currently dealing with and make sure if you do choose to do them to be surrounded by safe and supportive people and in a safe environment. Otherwise, happy tripping:)
I appreciated the commentary on current politics as much as the conversation about mental health. Daniel Mate has some interesting insights, particularly about what trauma is and how it can be healed.
This was a good episode! I really liked G Ford as a guest speaker. I thought his insight on testing and his advice, which came from lived experience, was especially useful.
Thank you for sharing this episode! I enjoyed hearing from G. Ford about his military experience. Hearing his story helps me better determine my path in social work as I am beginning my military career. Thank you both for your wise words.
